The client's executive leadership struggled with manual end-of-month reporting cycles that took over 10 days to compile. By the time decision-makers received the performance reports, the data was already outdated, rendering proactive strategy adjustments impossible.
Data silo issues included:
1. Sales pipeline logs and customer leads lived in a transactional MySQL database.
2. HR recruitment pipelines and attrition rates were managed in a separate HR software.
3. Marketing spends and digital channel performance were stored in isolated CSVs.
4. There was no clean way to correlate employee attrition with sales performance or calculate true customer acquisition cost (CAC). Our strategy was to break down data silos and give leadership a single live cockpit — where sales, people, and marketing metrics speak to each other in real time.
The root cause was not a lack of data — the business had plenty. The real issue was that the data lived in disconnected islands. Leaders made decisions based on incomplete pictures. Our approach was to build a unified data layer first, then surface insights on top of it — not the other way around.
We adopted a "connect, clean, then visualize" strategy:
→ Connect: Pull all data sources — MySQL, HR platform, and marketing CSVs — into one automated pipeline.
→ Clean: Apply Python-based ETL logic to standardize, deduplicate, and validate every record before it enters the dashboard.
→ Visualize: Build executive dashboards in Power BI that answer the questions leadership actually asks — not just display raw numbers.
What this looked like in execution:
1. Python ETL scripts run on a scheduled basis, automatically ingesting and cleaning data from every source.
2. A unified star-schema data model was designed to relate sales milestones, HR headcount changes, and marketing spend in one queryable layer.
3. Power BI dashboards were built with executive-level views — pipeline health, conversion funnels, attrition risk scores, and LTV/CAC ratios.
4. Complex DAX formulas compute rolling comparisons and dynamic period-over-period trends without manual analyst work.
5. One-click drill-downs let stakeholders move from the company summary to an individual transaction in seconds.
Leadership went from waiting 10 days for stale reports to refreshing a live dashboard every morning before their standup.
